Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains how PingMe ("the App", "we", "us") handles your information. The App is developed and operated by Christopher Rutledge.

1. Overview

PingMe is a quick-capture app: you record a voice note or type a message, and the App sends it to a destination you choose — email, WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS, or your clipboard. The App has no account system, no analytics, and no advertising. Your captures are stored only on your device.

2. Information Stored on Your Device

• Captures — your voice recordings, transcribed text, typed messages, and capture history are stored in a local database on your device. They are never uploaded to any server operated by us.
• Settings — your preferences (destinations, digest time, etc.) are stored locally.
• Email (SMTP) credentials — if you configure email sending, your SMTP username and password are stored in your device's secure storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore). They are used only to send the emails you request and are never transmitted anywhere else.
• OpenAI API key — if you configure voice transcription, the API key you provide is stored in your device's secure storage and is used only to authenticate your transcription requests to OpenAI.

All of this data is deleted when you uninstall the App. We operate no servers and hold no copy of your data.

3. Microphone and Voice Transcription

The App requests microphone access solely to record voice notes when you tap the record button. Recording never happens in the background or without your action.

When you record a voice note, the audio is sent securely to OpenAI's Whisper transcription service to convert your speech to text. OpenAI processes the audio to produce the transcription; under OpenAI's API policy, data submitted via the API is not used to train their models. No other data (such as your name, contacts, or location) is sent with the audio. You can read OpenAI's privacy policy at openai.com/policies/privacy-policy.

4. Sending and Sharing

When you send a capture, its content leaves your device only to the destination you explicitly choose:

• Email — sent via the SMTP server you configured, to the recipient you configured.
• WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS — the App hands the text to the relevant app on your device; delivery is then governed by that service's own privacy policy.
• Clipboard — the text is copied locally; nothing is transmitted.

The App never sends anything automatically or without your action.

5. Photos

If you attach a photo to a capture, the App accesses only the photo you select via the system photo picker. Photos are shared only to the destination you choose and are not uploaded to any server operated by us.

6. Notifications

If you enable the daily digest, the App schedules local notifications on your device. Notifications are generated entirely on-device; no notification service or server is involved.

7. Data We Collect

We collect nothing. The App contains no analytics services, no advertising networks, no crash-reporting SDKs, and no tracking of any kind.

8. Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
